My 2015 Kona Ironman World Champs Training

TEMPO TUESDAY.....

Still feeling the freezing conditions from this arctic blast and too cold to get out on the road this morning for a ride so I stayed indoors on the trainer.

Session was 3 x 15 min @ 80%

I am trying to build my fitness steadily using tempo work, rather than blasting too many high intensity efforts and then feeling too fatigued to follow up the sessions. I have previously found this works best for the aging body as I get too many niggling injuries when working in that high intensity zone too often.

Training for an ironman I believe that you need to be able to maintain the training rather than hitting big numbers and then crashing back down to earth. Tortoise and the hare springs to mind!

I managed a nice lunchtime aerobic run around the Uni which was nice to get out in the fresh air after nearly 2 weeks of indoor or missed sessions. I have a nice 9km course I can do at lunchtime from work with a few good hills and this complements my quality run sessions nicely with a good aerobic strength run, just what is required in building for an ironman marathon!

My Garmin went a bit haywire for a km or two and recorded a couple of k's at 3:20 pace, so it might need a reset. I find that I need to reset it every couple of months as it seems to go a bit funny for some reason and after a reset it is all good again.

All in all a productive day of training and another brick in the wall...
